FAQ

Paintings

Do you do commissions?

Yes, please contact me on info@kathrynsillince.com for any commissions or collaborations you have in mind, and I’ll get back to you within 24 - 48 hours.  I respond to all emails personally.

Do you have any original paintings for sale right now?

All original paintings currently for sale can be found in my shop under “Original Paintings”.

Why are there are no original paintings for sale in your shop?

If there are none for sale it means they have all sold, but there are always new works in the pipeline.  For first access to new originals, and for all news including works on sale and upcoming shows, subscribe to my VIP mailing list for my occasional emails.  I release new collections of originals every 3 months.  I don't like spam emails myself, so these are generally quarterly, and packed with juice!

I missed out on your last collection of originals, how do I find out when the next lot go on sale?

The best way to hear about my upcoming work is to sign up to my newsletter and you will receive an email before any new art goes on sale to the public.  You’ll also be first in the loop to hear about secret sales and other offers, news and blog posts.

What medium do you use?

I use primarily acrylics and mixed media with some metallic paints on canvas.  The canvases I use are all hand stretched by myself, using premium solid wooden stretcher bars, which are made in the UK, from wood that has been responsibly sourced and is both FSC & PEFC certified; the museum and gallery bars I use for my paintings are an excellent product that give each work strength and extra gravitas, ensuring longevity for years to come.

I then painstakingly prime each canvas at least three times which I’ve found gives me the smoothest whitest launchpad for the beautiful translucent colours I use in creating each painting.

I've bought my original painting, will it come ready to hang?

Yes.  Original paintings come stretched, wired and ready to hang. Some are framed already, and others aren't, there's a small yellow tab above each painting to let you know if a painting is 'framed' or 'unframed'

Limited Edition Prints

What type of prints do you create?

I offer Archival Pigment prints, on either cotton rag paper or canvas.  The prints currently available in my shop are a Limited Edition of 50 unless otherwise stated.

Do you make prints of all your original paintings?

Not all of them, only certain paintings from each collection are reproduced as a print.

What is the difference between a paper print and a canvas print?

The paper print is printed on cotton rag paper with archival inks, and comes with a white inch border.  Paper prints need to be framed behind glass to protect against UV damage, moisture and dust.  Canvas prints are printed on canvas and come with a two inch border to allow for stretching. Canvas prints have a varnish applied to protect against UV damage moisture and dust.

Do the prints come framed?

No, all prints, both paper and canvas are shipped rolled in a tube and would need to be taken to your local framers.  Canvas prints need to be stretched.  Once stretched by a specialist in your area, they are ready to hang, but a simple box frame or floating frame can be placed around them. I prefer a simple box frame but it's down to your personal taste.  Paper prints should be framed behind glass - with or without a mount (I prefer a 4 or 5 inch mount).  I recommend waiting until your print has arrived before ordering your frame or taking it to your local framers, this will ensure a lovely colour match to the hues within the artwork to the frame, and to ensure the correct size allowing for the white border of the print.

Do you sign your prints?

Yes, all prints are hand-signed by Kathryn.  Paper prints are signed, titled and numbered on the front, in the white inch border.  Canvas prints are signed titled and numbered on the back.

If I order a print on canvas does that mean it’s an original painting?

No, if you order a print on canvas it is just that – a limited edition print, a reproduction of an original painting.

I love this print, it’s square in shape – can you make it rectangular?

I’m afraid I don’t crop any of my prints.  I do rectangular paintings from time to time, but generally I really love working in the square format.  I can accommodate custom sizing as long as it doesn't compromise the image.  Please email me on info@kathrynsillince.com for more information on custom orders.

Is there added texture on the prints?

There is no added texture on the prints, all prints have a flat, matte finish.

Original paintings are packed very carefully in custom made double walled cardboard boxes with layers of bubble wrap.

All my prints (paper and canvas) are rolled and shipped in extra strong 3mm wall cardboard tubes. Open edition prints are sent flat.
